Fentanyl Patch for Pain

"Transdermal fentanyl patch"

When we apply a transdermal fentanyl patch on your pet you will receive this handout.

Fentanyl is a potent narcotic. It belongs to the same family of drugs that include opium and morphine. It is about 80 to 100 times more potent than morphine and provides excellent and long-lasting pain relief for up to 3 days.

The patch is toxic if swallowed.

Bring your pet to us right away as an EMERGENCY if ingested.

Following are some of the minor side effects of fentanyl:

  •    Sedation & wobbly gait
  •    Anorexia & not eating
  •    Skin reaction at the site of application
  •    Respiratory depression B shortness of breath

Important points to remember:

If any of the above-mentioned side effects are observed please notify your Veterinary Hospital.

Children should not be allowed to come in contact with the patch.

If there is an accidental ingestion by a child, please contact your physician immediately.
